Writer Jo Aspin gets to grips with the hottest new food and drinks collaboration in London.
Food and drink collaborations are ten a penny in London but this one’s caught our eye and we’re loving the sound of this Irish link-up in Islington. Award-winning Irish cocktail bar Homeboy on Essex Road will be opening up its kitchen to Irish food blogger Niamh Shields AKA Eat Like A Girl
Niamh’s takes on Irish favourites will include Taco Fries (served with black pudding ragu and chipotle taco sauce), Chicken Fillet Roll (buttermilk fried chicken with Korean chilli mayo), Curry Chip Poutine and Niamh’s homemade Bacon Jam.
Plus all-day brunch at the weekends will pave the way for Boxty (potato pancakes) served with whiskey-cured salmon, Waffles and Full Irish. Veggie, vegan and gluten-free dishes will all be on offer too.
Aaron Wall and Ciarán Smith launched Homeboy in December 2018 following impressive solo careers across some of the world’s best cocktail bars. In a short space of time Homeboy has received international and national recognition, having been nominated in the final four for Best New International Cocktail Bar at Tales of the Cocktail 2019, and ranked number eleven in the Top 50 Cocktail Bars in the UK for 2019.
Aiming to be the ‘home of modern Irish hospitality’, Homeboy does just this with laidback surroundings (and staff), seriously good crafted cocktails, and a strong onus on celebrating Irish producers and whiskies, plus draught Guinness on tap of course!
Signatures on the cocktail menu include Whiskey Smash (Roe & Co Irish Whiskey, Noilly Prat, mint and spinach syrup, orange bitters) and Homeboy’s Irish Coffee (The Dead Rabbit Irish whiskey, coffee cream, Demerara syrup, coffee bitters).
Celebrated Irish cook and food blogger Niamh is the author of Comfort & Spice and a well-known face on the foodie pop-up circuit.
We’re looking forward to sampling that Bacon Jam!
