Sparkly gin in a tin? We never say no to gin! Writer Emma Dennehy takes a sip of 58 Gin Hard Seltzer.
Those that know me, know that I bloomin’ love a gin. We are talking about lots of ice, tonic and some botanicals all in my favourite glass. With the heatwave, these gin hard seltzers couldn’t have come sooner.
58 Gin is best known for its handcrafted, premium artisan gin. Over lockdown, they have been contributing to keeping the stocks of hand sanitiser topped up and now this new beverage. They have been busy!
So, what is a gin hard seltzer you may ask? Well, in short, “hard” is alcohol, and “seltzer” is sparkling water. 58 Gin has then added some natural flavouring of raspberry and pink grapefruit to their refreshingly light alternative to a G&T.
The tins arrived in their beautiful pink and orange wrap. A contemporary colour palette and design that made them instantly Instagram worthy! I cracked open the first tin during our heatwave, the crisp click of the can opening, glugging it over ice and finally finishing with a straw to jingle the ice around is a sound of sunshine. The smell of fruity raspberry filled me with summer joy. I was so ready for the punch of berry. It was so refreshing; I can’t even describe. I then moved on to the pink grapefruit, which was full of delicate citrus notes.
As a reviewer, I promise myself one thing - to be honest. To accurately record how I felt at that moment, trying that something new. I adore food and drink (I married a chef for goodness sake). 58 Gin, these hard seltzers were delicate and refreshing, but when I have a drink I love a fruity punch to smack me in the face! So if subtle is what you are after, these will fill your glass very nicely. Chin, chin!
I just like gin.
58 Gin Hard Seltzer is available from Harvey Nichols and Master of Malt
