Review - Pearly Cow, Margate

Pearly Cow's new Sunday brunch menu offers guests the perfect excuse to linger a little longer by the sea, whether enjoying a lazy morning overlooking the Margate sands, meeting friends for a weekend catch-up, or extending a beach day into the afternoon.

Pearly Cow’s new brunch combines their unbeatable coastal views (ask for a table on the terrace) with classic dishes, English sparkling wine and signature cocktails. Available every Sunday from 11am-3pm, it showcases quality local produce and flavours in a setting that celebrates the character and charm of the Kent coast and the coolness of Margate.

Guests can choose from a range of classic brunch dishes including Eggs Benedict with roast ham, Eggs Royale with smoked salmon and Eggs Florentine with wilted spinach, alongside the hearty Pearly Cow Full English Breakfast, complete with Cumberland sausage, bacon, black pudding, slow-roast tomatoes, field mushrooms and eggs cooked to order.  We tried both the Eggs Benedict and the Eggs Royale: the eggs were cooked perfectly, with a rich golden gooey yolk, generous portions of ham or salmon, and topped with a creamy indulgent hollandaise.

Lighter options include Smashed Avocado with poached eggs, Overnight Oats with berry compote, Natural Yoghurt with fruit compote and granola, and the crisp and crunchy, freshly prepared Fruit Salad. The fruit compote was excellent, not overly sweet and still bursting with the freshness and vibrancy of the fruit, balancing well with the yoghurt and granola.

For those looking for something leaning more towards lunch than breakfast, Pearly Cow’s new brunch menu also features a No.42 Burger with gouda and onion relish, alongside an oozy sourdough Pastrami Stack with melted cheese, sauerkraut and mustard mayo with fries. A range of chilled juices and cocktails from mimosas to martinis are on offer to turn your brunch boozy; we liked the delicious orange-forward Breakfast Martini and the no-alcohol Rhubarb and jasmine soda.

The Pearly Cow is a relaxed and stylish venue with lovely staff and accomplished cooking. They've also recently introduced a burger night on Wednesdays with half price selected cocktails, in addition to their Thursday steak night where you can get a fire-grilled steak, fries and salad for just £18 - add a starter or pudding for a fiver or more and get half-price cocktails. It would be rude not to.

Location: Pearly Cow, 42 High Street, Margate, Kent CT9 1DS
