Lily Cotton ventures to Battersea to give restaurant Tozi's new al fresco terrace and current Malfy Gin cocktails collaboration a try, along with their Cicchetti (that's Italian tapas for the initiated). Find out if she found it belissimo!

As I spend a large amount of time pottering around South West London’s magnificent castle - Battersea Power Station - I have been excited to try Tozi for a while.

Situated on Electric Boulevard, it offers authentic Italian pizza and Cicchetti to be enjoyed with your Tozi (Italian for ‘group of friends’).

I headed there with just the one Tozi on a very stuffy summer’s evening to see if it could outshine the string of restaurant chains the power station has on offer.

The interior boasts lovely high ceilings and an elegant feel, but as it was a hot summer’s evening we decided to sit outside and people watch.

The menu consists of a selection of Cicchetti and Pizzas, with a few pastas, sides and other mains to enjoy as well. Tozi also have a current collaboration with Malfy Gin, so I of course decided to sample one of their cocktails. I opted for the ‘Vivace’ with Malfy Lemon, bergamot, rhubarb, Prosecco and London Essence soda water which was the perfect refresher and palate cleanser. My date had the Classic Negroni which packed a punch whilst not being too overpowering.

We were advised by our lovely waiter to share a couple of Cicchetti and then get a main, so we followed his advice and ordered the Zucchini fritti and 28 days aged Parmesan, as well as the Mushroom arancini, black truffle and alioli. The courgette fries arrived in a HUGE pile, smothered in parmesan. Although I thought they might be a lighter option than traditional fries, they were deep fried, crispy, cheesy and utterly delicious. My only criticism is that the pile was so huge I was a bit too full after the starters. The arancini was also delicious - it may have become contentious but I firmly believe truffle remains an absolutely divine ingredient.

Slightly too stuffed from the fritters, both my friend and I felt that we couldn’t manage a pizza.

However, when I go back I’ll certainly be getting the Black Truffle and Funghi and hoping one of my Tozi orders the Lobster, Gremolata and Sea Vegetable Pizza so I can try a slice. On this particular evening, we instead both opted for the Sea Bass, which seemed like the perfect light option after all that battered courgette (still ordered a side of Truffle fries though).

It arrived with salsa Fresca and lemon and flaked away beautifully from the bone. Perfectly cooked and complimented by the acidity of the tomatoes and lemon, we were pleased and just a bit smug that we weren’t regretting the healthy option.

We also shared a bottle of the House white (Cortese Amonte, Cantine Volpi Piemonte) which went down a treat too.

Far too full for dessert, we sipped on our crisp, chilled wine and happily watched shoppers and families stroll by as the sun set. Although it’s tucked into quite an industrial part of the power station, Tozi is certainly a breath of fresh air, and the perfect spot for well cooked Italian food that goes beyond just a bowl of pasta.
