Primrose Hill’s favourite neighbourhood pub, The Engineer, is back—and it’s had more than just a fresh lick of paint.

After a careful and considered revamp, the historic 1800s venue has reopened its doors, refreshed, revitalised, and ready to reclaim its place as one of North West London’s most cherished culinary spots.

A Local Landmark, Reimagined

Named after legendary local resident Isambard Kingdom Brunel, The Engineer has long been a fixture in this leafy corner of the capital. Tucked away just moments from the hill itself, the pub is as versatile as it is charming. With a buzzing central bar, a garden oasis, and multiple dining and private event spaces, it’s the kind of place that works whether you’re popping in for a pint, settling into a long lunch, or celebrating with friends.

Design-wise, the interiors blend classic pub character with contemporary flair. Think timeless wood panelling, elegant furnishings, and striking artwork, plus the beautifully lit Brunel Dining Room upstairs—available for private hire and perfectly suited to everything from birthdays to business lunches.

New Menu, Same Soul at The Engineer Pub

In the kitchen, Head Chef Nino Sadallah has introduced a crowd-pleasing yet elevated menu that celebrates British comfort food with a touch of seasonal finesse. Starters include pan-seared scallops with crispy chorizo, Devon crab on toasted brioche, and beef tartare with cured egg yolk—a trio that sets the tone for the rest of the offering.

Main courses span from land to sea to plant-based. Highlights include roasted cod with broad beans and pommes Anna, pan-roasted duck breast with beetroot and asparagus, and a creative roasted celeriac with pak choi and miso som tam dressing for vegans and vegetarians. From the grill, expect robust dishes like Dorset lamb striploin, ribeye, and sharing steaks, all bolstered by daily specials such as a rotating pie and catch of the day.

For a celebratory experience, a Spring Feasting Menu offers four curated courses for £50, with the option to add a glass of Champagne for £10—ideal for a birthday or relaxed gathering.

Sundays, Sorted

The Engineer’s Sunday roasts are already the talk of Primrose Hill. The standout? A 16oz sharing Chateaubriand, served with Yorkshire pudding, thyme-roasted potatoes, buttered cabbage, root veg, and a rich house gravy. You’ll also find aged sirloin of beef, a half roast chicken, and a delicious walnut roast, accompanied by all the traditional trimmings.

Drink Like a Local

Behind the bar, there’s something for everyone. Cocktails range from classics like the Negroni and Old Fashioned to more playful pours such as the Smoked Pineapple Mezcalita, made with Havana Cuban Spiced Rum, mezcal, pineapple, and a hit of spice.

The summer spritz list features refreshing options like Peach & Pineapple and Pink Grapefruit, while beer enthusiasts will appreciate a thoughtful selection of craft ales, ciders, and low- or no-alcohol options.

Wine lovers are spoiled with over 40 wines by the glass. From a crisp Sancerre to pale Provence rosé—Whispering Angel and Minuty both feature—there’s also a standout bottle list with big hitters like Barolo and Louis Jadot’s Chassagne Montrachet.

Spaces for Every Occasion

The ground floor bar and dining room offer a welcoming pub setting, while the cosy Snug provides a more intimate space for small gatherings. The showstopper is the Brunel Room upstairs: flooded with natural light and overlooking the streets of Primrose Hill, it's perfect for private events (38 seated, 60 standing). And of course, there’s the walled garden, an oasis for summer drinks, rosé lunches, and weekend relaxation.

With a standout new menu, inviting design, and a firm commitment to quality across food, drink, and service, The Engineer is back where it belongs: at the heart of the Primrose Hill community.
