Tangra Restaurant

ree

This bright, bold new Indo-Chinese restaurant has opened to plenty of fanfare across instagram. We think our invite to the opening must have got lost in the *post*. Sigh. It's named after the Tangra neighbourhood of Kolkata - the historic heart of Indo-Chinese cooking, creating a mash up of Nepalese, Tibetan and Chinese/ Indian flavours. The menu draws on the legacy of the city’s Hakka Chinese community, which blends traditional Hakka methods with Indian spices and local ingredients. Get set for Himawan Sadeko Chick’n, TANGRA Special Combination Rice, Manchurian Kofta and Hakka noodles and the Hakko - a Hakka-style taco made with paratha.

Double Red Duke Bicester

ree

Sam and Georgie Pearman have opened a second outpost of Double Red Duke, transporting the Clanfield spirit of their boutique hotel and restaurant to Bicester Village. There's no bedrooms at this second site but designer-hungry shoppers will be fuelled on to shop some more with their British style, comfort cooking and hospitality. Think epic cheese burgers, rib eye steaks, and spicy masala lamb chops. The design of Double Red Duke Bicester Village has been masterminded by Georgie. British antiques and curated art works adorn the lodge-style restaurant which fits 150 guests. There’s a handsome bar on entrance where you can sit atop the red velvet bar stools for cocktails.

Poon's at Somerset House

ree

Amy Poon has opened her first permanent restaurant at Somerset House, London. The menu is centred on food that is cooked and served in Chinese homes daily, which may be unfamiliar in the West. Signature dishes like Zha Jiang Noodles and Claypot rice, introduced to the UK by Amy’s father, Bill Poon, will feature and Chinese small eats will be served in the library.

Amy said; “Since my first pop-up in 2018, I’ve been searching for a space to call home. After various false starts, I could not have hoped for a more beautiful location than Somerset House. Five decades after my parents opened the first Poon’s Restaurant in Lisle Street, I can no longer deny the calling. This is a way of welcoming people to my table, where you come if you don’t have a nice Chinese friend who will cook for you at home.”

Red Dog Saloon launches Breakfast Menu

ree

The English breakfast is a culinary force to be reckoned with but the American breakfast gives it a good run for its money. Red Dog Saloon has introduced breakfast for the first time, bringing the American diner spirit to the UK. The Full American includes streaky bacon, fried eggs, smoked baloney, steak, a sausage patty, hash browns and pancakes on the side. For a more laid-back approach, Build Your Own Sandwich allows diners to mix and match from Red Dog’s signature breakfast ingredients, from sausage patties and smashed browns to steak and cheddar.

Those with a sweet streak can dig into fluffy pancakes or waffles with butter and maple syrup, available in classic or blueberry. The menu boasts an entire section on BBQ baskets, with eight dishes to choose from. In true American style, BBQ sandwiches loom large.  Juicy Lucy -chopped brisket, chopped pork, hot links, South Carolina mustard, slaw, served with pickles, salad and fries, will set you back £22.50. You'll also find typically Southern American fayre not commonly found in London, such as Oyster Po Boy, Catfish and Fried Pickles.

Choose from three London locations - Hoxton Square, Soho and Finsbury Park. There are also restaurants in Liverpool, Nottingham and Southampton.

20 Berwick St, London W1F 0PY
