Ogof to Open in Cardiff

Cardiff’s thriving independent dining scene is set to welcome Ogof, a new neighbourhood restaurant and natural wine shop opening later this year on Kings Road, on the border of Canton and Pontcanna.

The venture comes from residents Alex Vines, Zanna Clarke and Siôn Iorwerth. Alex has cooked in some of London’s most acclaimed kitchens, including 40 Maltby Street and Rochelle Canteen, before running his much-loved Cardiff pop-up, Vines. He’s also the force behind Cegin y Bobl, a not-for-profit delivering food education across Wales. Siôn brings deep wine expertise from time in Vancouver’s pioneering natural wine bars, while Zanna contributes a wealth of leadership and hospitality experience from the arts and charity sector.

Together, their vision is to create a space rooted in community, sustainability and a shared love of good food and wine.

Ogof (meaning “cave” in Welsh) nods to the French cave à manger tradition — part wine shop, part restaurant. Guests can expect seasonal, ingredient-led menus shaped by close relationships with local farmers and growers, alongside a wine programme showcasing distinctive natural wines sourced from the UK and Europe via Wright’s Wines and other independent importers.

Siôn explains: “We want Ogof to be a casual space where good food and real wines are at the forefront — whether it’s lunch, a bottle to take home, or settling in for the full evening menu.”

The atmosphere will be relaxed and welcoming, designed to feel like a neighbourhood hub where locals and visitors alike can return time and again.

Zanna adds: “We’ve made our lives here in Cardiff, and our hope is that Ogof grows into a place people feel proud of and connected to — a small part of the city’s wider food story.”
