Review: LIMIN Southbank (as a gluten-free diner).

As LIMIN Southbank celebrates its final months on the Southbank, Jenna Farmer visited to review its Caribbean cuisine.

London's South Bank is no stranger to a good time, but LIMIN Southbank, in the perfect location (tucked into the charming courtyard of Gabriel's Wharf) still stands out. This award-winning Caribbean restaurant takes its name from the Trinidadian word of limin, which translates to hanging out with friends over food, drinks and good vibes, and that spirit is baked into every corner of the restaurant. From the sandy summer to the cocktails and every dished served.

When it comes to gluten-free, there's a lot of different options, with the menu clearly flagging gluten-free options, as well as vegan, veggie and halal. There were so many tempting gluten-free options: including chicken wings, salads, ribs, all of the Trini curries and plenty of sides (such as fried plantain, potato salad and mango and citrus slaw).

LIMIN's Trini curries are all gluten-free.

There's plenty of kid's choices too, with a dedicated well-priced kids menu (£10 for kids wings and chips) whilst my tiny diner devoured the Caribbean hummus.

For me, the masala fish was the undeniable star of our visit. Beautifully spiced without tipping into overwhelming heat (perfect as we visited during the weekend heatwave). It arrived alongside a potato salad that my dining partner declared the best potato salad he'd ever eaten. Creamy but punchy, it worked as the ideal complement to the spicier dishes on the table.

The Caribbean hummus was a big hit with my little diner (note: the Roti means this dish isn't gluten-free)

Rounding things out was the mango and citrus slaw, refreshing and zingy in all the right ways. It cut through the richness of the fish perfectly and honestly could have been eaten on its own as a dish in its own right. The LIMIN lemonade seemed a little steep at £8 a drink, but it was the perfect antidote to a hot London day and the most refreshing drink of the day.

LIMIN's cocktails and soft drinks are the perfect antidote to a hot London day.

Sadly, we had no room for desert but there are gluten-free options on the menu, including Handmade rum truffles with double soya cream and coconut ice cream.

LIMIN is one of those restaurants that genuinely delivers on its promise. The food is bold, the setting is joyful, and the whole experience feels like a proper occasion , even on a Tuesday.

Whether you're after a long lazy lunch, cocktails on the Soutbank or an evening meal with a kick, LIMIN delivers.

LIMIN Southbank is at Gabriel's Wharf, 56 Upper Ground, London SE1 9PP. Visit limin.co.uk for menus and bookings.
