There’s a new name to know when it comes to what you drink with your curry.
Bunta Beer has officially launched in London, bringing a fresh take on the much-loved ‘curry and a pint’ pairing. Founded by 27-year-old Gunikka Ahuja, Bunta is the UK’s first non-alcoholic Indian craft beer, designed specifically to complement bold, spice-led dishes.
At just 0.5% ABV, gluten-free, vegan and only 60 calories per can, it’s a lighter, more considered option for modern drinkers. What really sets it apart is how it has been crafted with food in mind. Subtle carbonation keeps things refreshing without the heaviness, while citrus notes from orange peel and coriander seed mirror flavours commonly found in Indian cooking.
It feels like a natural evolution. While the UK’s Indian food scene has moved forward at pace, with restaurants like Kricket, Dishoom and Hoppers redefining the category, the drinks served alongside have often stayed the same.
Bunta is here to change that.
Now available through a growing list of forward-thinking stockists including DELLI, Kricket and Wise Bartender, the brand is already making its mark. It has also picked up a Gold award at the London Beer Competition, which feels like a strong start for such a young business.
Beyond the beer itself, there is a wider story at play. Ahuja, who previously worked in textile innovation, is also developing Buntatex™, a biodegradable material created from brewing waste, which will be used for future packaging and merchandise.
The design of the can reflects this forward-thinking approach. Bright, modern and culturally confident, it moves away from traditional visual cues often associated with Indian brands, instead capturing a new generation of drinkers.
At its heart, Bunta Beer is about enhancing the experience of eating. A crisp, refreshing lager that cuts through spice, resets the palate and keeps you coming back for the next bite.
One to have on your radar for your next curry night.
