Lunar New Year is important not just in China but across East and Southeast Asia, with major observances in China, Vietnam, South Korea and North Korea, plus significant celebrations in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and the Philippines.
The date varies each year (like Easter); in 2026 it falls on February 17th and welcomes in the year of the Fire Horse. If you'd like to celebrate at home with friends and family we've got everything you need from tasty dumplings to a full-on feast.
Love Sum Dumplings

Co-founded by MasterChef finalist Sandy Tang, Love Sum was created to make traditionally inspired Asian food more accessible to modern households, combining heritage recipes, premium ingredients and everyday convenience. Produced sustainably in the UK, their dumplings are chilled and ready to cook in minutes, whether steamed, pan-fried, baked or air-fried, offering a restaurant-quality experience at home with minimal effort.
Dumplings are deeply rooted in Asian food culture, where they are traditionally shared with family and friends during moments of celebration, particularly at Lunar New Year, to symbolise togetherness and prosperity.
Available in January in Sainsbury’s are six best-selling flavours from Love Sum:
Hoisin Duck Dumplings (200g) – rich, savoury and slightly sweet
Chicken & Kimchi Mandu (240g) – a punchy Korean-inspired favourite
Prawn Hargow (240g) – a dim sum classic with delicate prawn filling
Pork, Prawn & Shiitake Siumai (200g) – umami-rich and deeply comforting
Korean BBQ Beef Mandu (200g) – bold, smoky and full of flavour
Shiitake & Veg Jiaozi (200g) – a satisfying vegetarian option
