Ottolenghi Panettone Sour Cherry & Custard Panettone

ree

Phoooar. Italy's classic Christmas bread makes a delightful gift for turning up to seasonal parties with. The Ottolenghi Panettone Sour Cherry & Custard is a cut above the rest. Made in Italy by artisan bakers Pasticceria Scarpato, this new sour cherry and custard panettone is the result of over 25 tastings. Deliciously light with added moistness thanks to the custard chunks, and the sweetness is offset by the sour tangy cherry cutting through. This was so good it even won over the panettone haters in our household. Delightful.

Carluccio’s Panettone Tradizionale

ree

Panettone producers Signora Audasso and Signor Minetti have been working with Carluccio's for over 30 years, in the beginning, supplying Antonio's original Neal Street Deli, next to his famous and loved restaurant in Covent Garden. Carluccio’s Tradizionale Panettone comes from Piemonte made by a recipe that has been passed from generation to generation. Carluccio’s Panettone takes a very long time to make involving lots of mixing and kneading to achieve the bread’s light fluffy nature. The first dough is made with flour, eggs, butter and sugar and then left to prove overnight. The following morning the specially selected dried fruit and candied peel are mixed into the dough. It’s then left to prove for another 4 hours and then baked for an hour at the ideal temperature and then left to cool for 14/16 hours. What really gave this panettone the edge though was the 'glassato' - a sweet, nutty hazelnut glaze that is added just before it’s popped in to the oven.
