5 Boozy Treats To Try This Month

Hello Autumn, we take a look at the hottest new drinks we should be celebrating October with, including Cranes, brand new brand Mary, a fab new gin from Porters Gin, a delivery box to get through you winter and an award-winning Whisky.

Orchard

Did somebody say champagne flavoured gin? The Porter’s Gin team have released a new expression – Orchard. Paying homage to the flavour profile of great-tasting French wines, in particular, Blanc De Blanc champagne, the micro-distillers have cold-distilled green apples and pears into gin to imitate the intense fruitiness of champagne’s Chardonnay grape.

They use a soybean distillate to give the gin its sophisticated butter and biscuit tasting notes. Golden in colour, the gin is best enjoyed as a G&T with a slice of apple or in a French 75 cocktail.

Cranes

Cider fans listen up. Cranes has just pressed it’s latest premium apple cider and it’s damn tasty! Handcrafted in Cambridge by co-founders and twin brothers Ben & Dan Ritsema, using 100% fresh juice, from British apples which are picked and pressed on the same day.

Price: £18.80 for a case of 18 from Cranes or from ASDA

Mary

London start-up Illogical Drinks bring you a new low alcohol botanical spirit Mary. Created with sustainably sourced plants including basil, thyme, sage, coriander seeds, angelica roots, pine needles and juniper, the delicate green spirit is full of zesty, herbal flavours and citrusy aromas, yet contains just 6% ABV and 9 calories per 25ml serving.

Add it to your fave tonic along with a slice of lemon for guilt-free G&Ts minus the hangover the next day. We’re in.

Bowsaw

Here’s a new whiskey for your drinks basket. We love the retro bottle look of Bowsaw – USA-made corn whiskey. It’s distilled and matured in northern Kentucky on the banks of Ohio River and is a mash up of 91% corn, 5% barley and 4% rye.

The whiskey is aged for 4-5 years in charred oak barrels giving it a robust flavour with undertones of mellow barely and dry rye spice. It’s already won a silver medal at the prestigious International Spirits Challenge 2020.

Price: £33.95 from Masters of Malt
